President - Shree Lohana Mahaparishad

Shree Yogesh Shashikantbhai Lakhani has been selected as the youngest president of SHREE LOHANA MAHAPARISHAD in its entire history. By profession Shree Yogesh Lakhani is a lawyer practicing mainly in the Gujarat High Court and the Supreme Court of India. Born on 17th Nov. 1963 at Mangalore, he had his primary education at Shardagram, Mangarol (Junagadh), one of the then best boarding schools in India established by late Shree Mansukhrambhai Jobanputra. He then had his higher secondary education in Experimental school, affiliated to M.S. University, Baroda and completed his graduation in commerce faculty in the same university. Thereafter he completed his studies in LAW from D.D.Kotiawala Law College at Porbandar and obtained the degree of LL.B. from Saurashtra University, Rajkot. While gaining the experience from Taluka Court at Porbandar as a law student, finding the limited scope in the practice of law at Porbandar, he shifted to Ahmedabad, the commercial capital of Gujarat and started his practice in Gujarat High Court from 13th October 1986. Initially he joined the office of a senior lawyer Shri D.G.Karia (who subsequently became the Judge, High Court of Gujarat).

Simultaneously he had joined his masters education in law at School of Law, Gujarat University and obtained the degree of LL.M. in the year 1988 with the highest score and was awarded a Gold Medal.

As a lawyer Shree Lakhani has got a grip over the matters on variety of subjects like Criminal, Civil, Constitutional, Service, Labour, Land, Detention and many more. Over a passage of time he concentrated his practice mainly on criminal side like his father late Shri Shashikantbhai Anandlal Lakhani, (the former Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly and also the former minister of Industries, Law and Judiciary, Mines and Minerals and Energy etc.). Shri Lakhani also started taking interest in various Social, Political, Institutional and other activities related to public causes.

He was elected as one of the youngest members in Bar Council of Gujarat in the year 1994 with the highest number of votes (constituency of more than 40,000 lawyers practicing in the entire state.) He thereafter continued to be elected for the 3rd consecutive terms of 5 years each and even at present he has continued to be the member of the Bar Council of Gujarat. From 1st Jan 1999, he took charge as the Chief Editor at a very renowned Law Journal of Gujarat “Gujarat Law Herald”, the only law journal published by the state Bar-Council in the country.  He remained as the chief editor of the said journal for more than 9 years. He rendered his services as part time lecturer in 2 law colleges for more than 12 years, Nav Gujarat Law College – Ahmedabad (Now D.C.Trivedi Law College) & Siddharth Law College – Gandhinagar. He is also recognized as the post graduate law teacher by Gujarat University.

He has been thrice elected as Vice President of Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association and twice elected as its President. As the president of the said association during his tenure, he made radical changes in the process of election of the office bearers and members of Managing Commiittee, change the entire constitution of the Association, got the Association registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act and also under the Societies' Registration Act, did lot many activities relating to education, training and welfare of young lawyers and law students and arranged number of cultural events, sports competitions, and various other activities for strengthening the unity among the members of the bar and maintaining the cordial relations between the Bar and the Bench. He has been designated as Senior Advocate by High Court of Gujarat with effect from 4th August 08 as one of the youngest lawyers.

He started his social activities since the age of 17 years when he first associated himself as a volunteer in the blood donation and other activities of Jagrut Yuva Mandal at Porbandar. The activities he carried thereafter were limitless. He has been working as the General Secretary of Shri Ahmedabad Lohana Mahajan Wadi Trust for last more than 15 years. He has been the trustee of Samarpan Education Trust, Ahmedabad. He has been associated as Secretary and Trustee of very well known TB Hospital of Keshod called Akshaygadh.

He has been rendering his services as the Joint General Secretary of Vishwa Gujarati Samaj. He also managed with his friends, a children society for about 7 years for the overall development and grooming the children at Porbandar.

He has also associated himself as the Director of Gujarat Tourism Development Society, a society established with a purpose to develop the tourism spots in Gujarat.

He is founder of an Art & Music Academy in Ahmedabad in fond memory of his late father called “Shashikunj” which caters the need of the children and the youth on various subjects of art, dance, music and other cultural activities. He has associated himself with Shri Lohana Mahaparishad as a young worker in Yuva Samiti some 17 years before and thereafter he was take as a member of General Body, Executive Committee and had become the chairman of professional committee for 2 consecutive terms and has been appointed as a trustee of the Trust Board. Varni (selection) Samiti of Shree Lohana Mahaparishad has selected him as the President of this parent body for five  years (2010-2015).
